Social Networking for Spies

8 September 2008 8,808 views One Comment

Networking site are mushrooming by the dozen everyday – for moms, moms-to-be, singles, students, and what not. Interestingly, now there will be a social networking site for the US intelligence agencies as well.

The new social-networking site, A-Space, and no, it’s not just going to be a platform for spies to discuss the latest action flicks or the newest band in the country. The site is aimed for analysts within the 16 U.S. intelligence agencies to share information about critical matters that relate to their country.

Sometimes, even the smartest agencies lose important information while on its way to the final destination. So, the idea behind this social-networking site is to act as a link for ends to meet.

“It’s a place where not only spies can meet but share data they’ve never been able to share before,” says Michael Wertheimer, assistant deputy director of national intelligence for analysis. “This is going to give them for the first time a chance to think out loud, think in public amongst their peers, under the protection of an A-Space umbrella,” he adds.

After months of testing, A-Space is all set to be launched officially for the entire intelligence community of United States on September 22, 2008.

It would be interesting to know how intelligence agencies keep tabs on the flow of security-related information being misused by some civilian geek.
