The zero budget videos were shot on the astroturf at the University of York by students Will Tribble, Rocco Sulkin and Joe Burgess.

Since being posted on video sharing site YouTube just four weeks ago, the students’ version of Tom Hanks’ Forrest Gump has been viewed 1.5 million times. The 60 second clip shows iconic scenes of Forrest shedding his leg braces, taking up American football and marrying his childhood sweetheart, before ending with that famous ‘life is like a box of chocolates’ scene.

Following on from the success of Forrest Gump, the students made a similar version of Kill Bill – condensing both the first and second film into just one minute.

This video has also seen enormous popularity, with more than 500,000 views in the two weeks since it was posted.

As well as lasting only a minute each, both videos were filmed in just one take, showing the central character walking through

each scene while other actors step in either to play minor roles or to hand over props.

The trio, who are all members of the university’s Filmmaking Society, were originally inspired by a competition for shortened versions of films.

Mr Tribble, 22, said they had been surprised by the reaction their clips have received in YouTube, saying “The reaction to Forrest Gump was insane”.

As for their next project, it could be a more ambitious adaptation as Tribble revealed, “Star Wars could be an option but it would be very difficult.”
